Name: Christopher Chekouras
Title: Vice president and chief operating officer, Virtua Health Services Network

Biography: In this position, Chekouras leads the development of Virtua’s comprehensive community-based System of CARE. Chekouras and his colleagues enhance Virtua's services to improve the overall health of the community through education and fitness and wellness initiatives. The team encourages the community to better manage chronic conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure in order to avoid unnecessary emergency room visits or hospitalizations.
Chekouras also provides leadership for Virtua’s ambulatory services, which include Virtua's health and wellness facilities in Camden, Washington Township, Voorhees and the soon-to-be-constructed facility in Moorestown. Additionally, Chekouras provides leadership oversight for Virtua's post-acute services, which include Home Health and Health and Rehabilitation Services in Mt. Holly and Berlin.
Previously, he was responsible for the administrative oversight of the clinical and non-clinical ancillary services for Virtua Berlin, a 95-bed healthcare facility, which includes the first Acute Care for the Elderly Unit in South Jersey; Wound Healing Center; and Virtua Health and Rehabilitation Center at Berlin.
Chekouras came to Virtua from Harbor Hospital, a 182-bed community hospital in Baltimore, MD, where he served as vice president for planning and physician relations. Prior to his tenure at Harbor Health, he served as director of business development and marketing for the American Red Cross, Biomedical Services. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development.
Chekouras received a Bachelor of Science degree from Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Business Administration from Loyola College in Baltimore.
