History
HFSN traces its century of traditions to the two founding schools of nursing, both established in the 1880's in Camden. The Cooper Hospital School of Nursing and the Helene Fuld School of Nursing merged in 1980 and became the Helene Fuld School of Nursing in Camden County. Governance of this combined program became the responsibility of an 18 Member Board of Trustees. At the same time, a cooperative agreement with CCC was approved by the NJ Department of Higher Education.
Under the cooperative agreement, CCC offers the liberal arts and science courses of the curriculum and confers the associate in science degree while HFSN is responsible for the nursing courses and grants the diploma in nursing. The school's two major teaching affiliates are Virtua and the Cooper University Hospital, both fully accredited institutions.
In 1993, the school moved from Camden to a new modern building in Blackwood. This building houses state-of-the-art technologies for student learning including multimedia with interactive nursing software programs, a computer lab and a modern nursing skills lab. HFSN has a spacious, well-equipped nursing library located in Camden County College's Wolverton Learning Resource Center, featuring the largest collection of nursing journals and books in the South Jersey area.
More than 3,000 professional nurses have graduated from HFSN and its antecedent schools. The majority of graduates work in the greater Philadelphia region in a variety of nursing positions.
