Quality New Jersey Silver Governor's Award: Virtua was awarded the distinguished 2006 Silver New Jersey Governor's Award for Performance Excellence. Having won the Bronze New Jersey Governor's Award in 2005, Virtua is one of only a few organizations to receive this award two years in a row.
Consumer Choice Award: Virtua received the Consumer Choice Award from the National Research Corporation in its annual survey of consumers performed for 2012/2013, 2010/2011, 2009/2010 and 2007/2008.
#1 Best Place to Work: Every year since 2007, Virtua has been named #1 Best Place to Work in the Delaware Valley by the Philadelphia Business Journal in the 1,000 employee plus category. In 2012, Virtua was also elected to the Philadelphia Business Journal's Best Place to Work Hall of Fame for the fifth consecutive year.

#1 in Employee Engagement: In 2011, Virtua took top honors for employee engagement in a survey conducted by HR Solutions, an independent human resources consulting firm. Virtua ranked number one nationally in employee engagement compared with more than 500 U.S. healthcare organizations. In 2009 and 2010, Virtua took top honors in employee satisfaction.
Employee Wellness/Cancer Prevention: Virtua's employee wellness program received CEO Cancer Gold Standard re-accreditation from the CEO Roundtable in 2011. To earn Gold Standard accreditation, an organization must establish programs to reduce cancer risk through discouraging tobacco use; encouraging physical activity and teaching diet and nutrition; detecting cancer at its earliest stages; and providing access to quality care and clinical trials.
Perinatal Care: Virtua was designated a Regional Perinatal Center by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services. This designation means Virtua provides a full range of maternity services and testing for low- and high-risk pregnant women and advanced care for high-risk newborns.
Cancer Care: In 2010, Virtua's Cancer Program received a three-year full accreditation with commendation designation by the Commission on Cancer, a program administered by the American College of Surgeons (ACoS). In 2010, Virtua's program was one of a select group of 90 cancer programs in the U.S. to be granted an Outstanding Achievement Award for Excellence in Cancer Care from the ACoS. Virtua is also a Fox Chase Cancer Center partner.
Stroke Care: All four Virtua hospitals are designated Primary Stroke Centers by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services. In 2011, Virtua Memorial received a "Get with the Guidelines" Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, the fifth successive year the Mount Holly hospital has been honored. The Get With The Guidelines award recognizes hospitals that have a dedicated stroke unit, as well as a comprehensive system for rapid diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients admitted through the emergency department.
Spine Surgery: In 2013, Virtua Memorial Hospital was designated an Aetna Institute of Quality (IOQ) for its spine surgery program. Designated IOQ facilities demonstrate excellence in care, a commitment to continuous improvement and represent an exceptional value to its members. The goal of Aetna’s IOQ is to assist members in choosing facilities that provide consistently high-quality and high-value care.
Diabetes Care: Virtua's Center for Nutrition and Diabetes Services received the Education Recognition Certificate for a quality Diabetes Self-Management education program from the American Diabetes Association. The ADA acknowledges that Virtua's program offers high-quality diabetes self-management education which is an essential component of effective diabetes treatment. Education Recognition status is verified by an official certificate from the ADA and is awarded for three years.
Chest Pain: Virtua Marlton has received accreditation as a Chest Pain Center by the Society of Chest Pain Centers. The center is a specialized program within Virtua Marlton's emergency room, offering rapid diagnosis and fast-track treatment of chest pain within minutes of a patient's arrival at the hospital.
Home Care: In 2010, Virtua Home Care was ranked as one of the top 100 home-health agencies nationwide for achieving a balance in quality outcomes, quality improvement and financial performance. Home Health Line, the industry's leading news publication, and Outcome Concept Systems compared Virtua's program to more than 7,400 agencies within the country.
Nutrition Care: Virtua's nutrition program was selected in 2010 as the Global Center of Excellence for Nutrition Support by Abbott Pharmaceuticals. Virtua was selected because of its commitment to and pursuit of excellence in patient care, especially as it relates to nutrition
Start! Fit-Friendly Company: In 2012, Virtua's unique Wellness Program was honored for the fifth-straight year by the American Heart Association for its innovative and successful approach to employees' health and wellness. The program received the Fit-Friendly Platinum award. Virtua is one of only 14 organizations in the Northeast United States to obtain the platinum-level Fit-Friendly Company award, the highest level of achievement the AHA offers for worksite wellness campaigns that help employees eat better and increase exercise.
Employee Wellness: Virtua was honored by the Philadelphia Business Journal for its focus on employee wellness programs, receiving a 2011 Healthiest Workplace Award.
Business Leadership Award: Virtua was honored in 2012 by JEVS Human Services, one of the largest social service agencies in the region, for routinely hiring job candidates with disabilities and other challenges as well as training and preparing all its employees for productive careers.
VHA Leadership Award for Outstanding Achievement: Virtua was honored by Voluntary Hospitals of America (VHA) in 2007 with six Leadership Awards for clinical excellence in heart failure outcomes and surgical infection prevention.
Breast Program: Virtua's Breast Program has been accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. To earn this accreditation, a breast program must demonstrate a firm commitment to offering its patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease.
Sleep Medicine: Virtua’s Centers for Sleep Medicine in Cherry Hill, Marlton, Voorhees and Westampton have received accreditation in sleep medicine as the result of a survey by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), the national accrediting body for sleep centers.
Technology: The New Jersey Technology Council awarded its annual top prize - Master Technology Company of the Year to Virtua. The key considerations for the award include long-term growth and profitability, substantial impact on industry and market within the last 10 years, advancement of industry standards and accomplishments as an outstanding corporate citizen.
Fitness Center: Virtua Center for HealthFitness - Washington Township was named "Best Gym" in Philadelphia Magazine's 2011 Best of Philly publication. The Center for HealthFitness provides a wide range of fitness options to satisfy total fitness and health and wellness needs.
Joint Commission Disease-Specific Certified Programs

The following Virtua programs received Joint Commission disease-specific certifications, which means they meet the highest national standards for quality, safety and patient care:
- Primary Stroke Center: All four Virtua hospitals have received the Joint Commission's Certificate of Distinction for Primary Stroke Centers, which recognizes their exceptional efforts to foster better outcomes for stroke care. In 2005, Virtua Memorial received South Jersey's first Joint Commission accreditation for its stroke program. Virtua Memorial is also the recipient of the Gold Performance Achievement Award from the American Stroke Association.
- Total Joint Replacement Program: Virtua's Total Joint Replacement Program is accredited by the Joint Commission. In 2006, Virtua became the Northeast's first Joint Commission-accredited total joint replacement program.
- Spine Program: Virtua's spine program is accredited by the Joint Commission. In 2007, Virtua became the Northeast's first Joint Commission-accredited spine program and only the second to achieve this prestigious recognition nationwide.
Licensures
All of Virtua's clinical services including hospitals, long-term care and rehabilitation centers, ambulatory sites and outpatient services are licensed by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services.
