Mary P. Hugues is a vice president and general counsel at Virtua. She joined West Jersey Health System as its General Counsel in 1996, and was promoted to General Counsel for Virtua at the time of the merger in 1998. Hugues is responsible for all legal and regulatory compliance for the health system. She is also responsible for system-wide risk management, and operates Virtua Assurance, Inc., a Vermont-based captive insurance company which provides professional and general liability insurance for the health system.
Prior to joining Virtua, Hugues served as in-house counsel to the University of Pennsylvania Health System and Hahnemann University. She also worked as a litigation associate at Pepper, Hamilton & Scheetz.
Hugues has served on numerous non-profit boards, including the Mental Health Association of Southwestern New Jersey and the Diocese of Camden. She is a founding board member of Arise Academy Charter High School, a board member of the Holy Family Home, and a member of the Ceres Society of Philabundance. She has been honored by the Camden County YWCA with its Tribute to Women and Industry award.
