Spectrum of Care
Holistic treatments such as acupuncture, biopuncture and homeopathy are used to stimulate the body’s natural healing process. They have proven effective in treating a wide range of medical issues including joint and back pain, arthritis, migraines, asthma, urinary problems and digestive disorders to name just a few.
Polina Karmazin, MD, is the medical director of Integrative Medicine at Virtua. She is board-certified in integrative medicine and acupuncture. She is certified in advanced biopuncture techniques. She has been practicing medicine in South Jersey for more than 20 years and offers patients a balanced approach that combines conventional medicine with proven complementary therapies. Dr. Karmazin is happy to work in collaboration with patients’ primary care physicians.
Acupuncture promotes natural healing by using small needles which, when applied at very precise points, produce stimulation that causes the release of natural, restorative chemicals in the muscles, spinal cord and brain. The World Health Organization recognizes acupuncture in the treatment of digestive, neurological and muscular disorders, as well as respiratory issues and urinary and menstrual problems.
Biopuncture is a steroid-free injection treatment that uses natural, FDA-regulated, homeopathic remedies to stimulate the body’s healing process. These substances are used to treat pain, swelling, inflammation and toxin accumulation, among other problems. Biopuncture has been found to be successful in controlling pain caused by arthritis, tendinitis, bursitis and acute injuries. It is also beneficial in the treatment of colds, flu and asthma.
Homeopathy is a system of medicine that involves treating individuals with highly diluted natural substances with the goal of triggering the body’s natural system of healing. Each patient receives a one-hour, in-depth assessment to determine the remedies that will work best to support overall health and well-being. This holistic assessment includes an evaluation of a patient’s current illness, as well as medical history, diet, lifestyle and personality. Homeopathic remedies are tailored to each person based on the results of the assessment.
Microcurrent Electrical Neuromuscular Stimulator (MENS)
Microcurrent therapy is often used to in the treatment of tendon and ligament injuries. Weak electrical currents are applied using electrodes placed on the skin. Research and clinical trials have shown that microcurrent stimulation speeds the healing time of sprain, strains and fractures. Other effects include decreased inflammation, edema and swelling.
