PGY-1 Residency

The PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program at Virtua is a post-graduate program consisting of 12 months of general training and experience in various aspects of hospital practice.

Purpose: Upon completion of the Virtua Pharmacy Residency Program graduates will be qualified for positions including a PGY-2 residency, clinical pharmacist, and inpatient pharmacists. In addition, residency training will also prepare the clinician to become a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS).

The Residency Experience

During the PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency year, the residents will be exposed to required core rotations. They will also have the opportunity, based on their interests and preferences, to choose various elective rotations. Together, the core and elective rotations will enhance the Resident’s existing knowledge base and fulfill the purpose of the Residency.

Teaching Opportunities

Virtua is affiliated with the University of the Sciences. Through this affiliation, PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residents will have the opportunity to participate in the U. Sciences Pharmacy School Teaching Certificate Program. The Resident will also have the opportunity to teach Doctor of Pharmacy candidates on Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) rotations and to give guidance to students - who are learning to become healthcare professionals - on their Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) rotations.
