Virtua's MICU program also includes the Paramedic Bike Team, which is available during community events at no cost.
Each team comes equipped with basic and advanced life support including:
- EKG
- IV therapy
- Airway/intubation
- Medication intervention
In addition to being certified paramedics, the Paramedic Bike Team receives training on traditional bicycle safety, as well as emergency bike response procedures and crowd control.
The paramedics are in constant communication with an emergency department physician and are trained to perform all advanced life support procedures. They work in cooperation with the local ambulance and EMTs to quickly transport the patient to a hospital.
