Endometriosis is a condition in which the endometrium (lining of the uterus) migrates and attaches to other parts of the body such as the ovaries, abdominal lining, bladder and colon. It can cause pelvic pain and cramping, pain during sex, minor bleeding problems and infertility.
Some women, however, have no symptoms and don't discover that they have endometriosis until they are being treated for infertility.
Virtua OB/GYNs often use laparoscopy (minimally invasive visual exam of the abdomen) to definitively diagnose endometriosis. After diagnosis, they help patients manage symptoms through a personalized approach that may include:
- Symptom monitoring or "watchful waiting"
- Medication and/or hormone therapy
- Pain management
- Traditional and minimally invasive surgical treatments
- Hysterectomy
For your convenience, Virtua OB/GYNs see patients at locations throughout Burlington, Camden and Gloucester Counties and offer flexible appointment schedules.
