Nephrology is the branch of medicine that treats the kidneys and kidney diseases. Humans have two kidneys, which are bean-shaped organs that filter, or clean, blood. They produce urine to rid the body of waste that was removed from the blood. These organs also regulate blood pressure and electrolytes.
Pediatric nephrologists are physicians with unique expertise in the care of children and adolescents with kidney conditions such as urinary tract infections, renal insufficiency, hypertension, diabetes-related kidney problems, congenital kidney abnormalities, kidney stones and more.
Virtua is staffed with board-certified nephrologists who care for adults and children with chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury, hypertension, pregnancy-related renal/hypertension disorders and kidney stone disease. They also treat kidney transplant recipients and patients on dialysis.
