Everyone is a winner at annual Virtua CASTLE Art Show
Positive reinforcement plays an important role in a child's growth and development, and that's exactly what happened at the annual Virtua CASTLE Art Show on the Camden campus.
The 6th annual show was even more exciting this year as Virtua CASTLE (Children Achieving Success through Therapeutic Life Experiences) celebrated its 10-year anniversary with festivities that also included an open house. It was an exciting day filled with creative artwork and projects showcasing the positive results of building self-esteem.
Virtua CASTLE helps children ages 5 through 15 overcome severe emotional, behavioral or psychiatric issues and encourages them to reach their full potential through normal daily activities. This is also National Children's Mental Health Week, another reason to celebrate Virtua CASTLE's success.
The art show included drawings, paintings, crafts and 3-D art, which were judged in categories that included most colorful, best theme and most imaginative. Everyone walked away a winner.
Virtua CASTLE has grown tremendously over the past decade. When it opened in 1999 as a partial day program, the average daily census was 12 youngsters. Since then, the program has expanded its services to include intensive and general outpatient programs. In 2008, Virtua CASTLE counseled nearly 14,700 children in partial day and intensive outpatient programs, along with 5,500 in the general outpatient program.
