Virtua breaks ground on Health and Wellness Center in Wash. Township
Visitors to Virtua's new Health and Wellness Center in Washington Township will go there for the spa, a heart-healthy meal in the café or a workout at the fitness center. But they will also come for its High-Risk Pregnancy Center, Ambulatory Surgery Center and Cardiac Rehabilitation.
At 1 pm on Tuesday, May 27, Virtua officials and employees, as well as state and local leaders, officially turn the first ceremonial shovels of earth on the $31 million Virtua Health and Wellness Center. The 225,000-square-foot facility will sit on about 40 acres at 239 Hurffville-Crosskeys Road, near the intersection with Fries Mill Road. It is expected to open in the summer of 2009 and much of the heavy earthmoving is already complete.
An extension of the ambulatory services plan announced last year for a new medical campus and digital hospital in Voorhees, the Washington Township center is part of Virtua's initiative to improve access to healthcare services. Another new Health and Wellness Center is planned for Moorestown.
"We are excited to bring new options in healthcare services to Gloucester County residents, as well as hundreds of exciting new job opportunities," said Richard P. Miller, President and CEO of Virtua Health. "Gloucester County is one of the fastest growing communities in the state. Our Health and Wellness Centers represent a new era in health care where the focus is not only on helping people return to good health, but working to prevent illness."
The Virtua Health and Wellness Center will include an Immediate Care Center that provides timely and convenient treatment of minor, unexpected injuries and illnesses; a High-Risk Pregnancy Center which offers the services of world-class maternal-fetal medicine specialists to care for women with high-risk pregnancies and a Metabolic Center that provides an outpatient diabetes management program accredited by the American Diabetes Association.
"Gloucester County residents have been selecting Virtua for their healthcare for decades," says Adrienne Kirby, chief operating officer for ambulatory services and programs of excellence. "Now, Virtua is making that choice easier by bringing a major healthcare destination site to Gloucester County. The center will provide the community with access to Virtua's expertise and customer-focused care. With onsite physician offices, diagnostic testing, and outpatient surgery, visitors can see their doctors and undergo tests or procedures without ever leaving the Center."
It will also offer physical and occupational therapy, cardiac rehabilitation,
radiation oncology, diagnostic radiology and women's breast imaging services such as mammography and ultrasounds. Visitors will also be able to exercise at the Fitness Center, relax with a massage at the Med Spa and enjoy a meal in the café.
Many of the area's top specialists will have offices in the Virtua Health and Wellness Center and will provide services in cardiology, endocrinology, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, otolaryngology, oncology, radiology and a full compliment of surgical specialties. Virtua worked closely with local physicians and the township government to design programs and services that best meet the needs of the community.
