Virtua is the South Jersey Goes Red Sponsor
More than 42 million women in the United States are living with at least one kind of cardiovascular disease. However, most women do not see heart disease as their greatest health threat. In an effort to increase awareness, Virtua Health and the American Heart Association
(AHA) teamed up for South Jersey Goes Red, part of the national Go Red for Women campaign.
Friday, February 6, is National Wear Red Day for Women. This massive national public awareness day unites millions of Americans who will wear red to show their commitment to the fight against the leading killer and leading health threat facing women today - cardiovascular disease. Buildings will go red. Monuments will go red. People from all walks of life will wear red to raise awareness. Virtua will go red!
As the official sponsor of South Jersey Goes Red Sponsor, the first such strategic alliance in New Jersey, Virtua has made a commitment to educating women on the risk of heart disease and stroke, as well as providing them with the tools needed to make heart healthy choices.
"More women die of cardiovascular disease than the next five cause of death combined," said Richard P. Miller
, president and CEO of Virtua Health. "This partnership gives women throughout the region the chance to prevent heart disease and stroke, and live longer, stronger lives."
"Women have a lot of roles and a lot of people depend on us," said Adrienne Kirby
, Virtua Health vice president and COO. "We are mothers, wives, daughters. We often put the needs of others before our own needs, our own health and we sometimes need to be reminded that we have to take care of ourselves."
