Virtua makes wellness fun for high school students
A group of Virtua employees spent the day screening, quizzing and stretching students at Shawnee High School – all with the goal of encouraging them to make healthy choices. Virtua partnered with Shawnee to sponsor a Wellness Day on May 18 for nearly 1,700 students and provided a variety of interactive health demonstrations and screenings.
Activities included a paramedic simulator that allowed students to act as emergency medical technicians, skin cancer screenings, yoga demonstrations, body mass index assessments and information on concussions, nutrition and medical careers. Other highlights included a healthy cooking demonstration by Cork restaurant and a guest appearance by former NFL player Fred Baxter who encouraged students to participate in fitness activities with Virtua’s Center for Athletic Performance.
The successful event was a collaborative effort between many disciplines at Virtua and is part of the John M. Tedeschi Pediatric Institute’s commitment to providing community wellness programs.
