Virtua physician honored by Philadelphia Flyers
Joseph Costabile, M.D.,
is not only a well-respected Virtua vascular surgeon but he is also a Captain in the U.S. Navy and a reservist attached to the Marines' 4th Medical Battalion. Dr. Costabile has taken his 25 years of surgical experience and expertise to war zones during two tours of duty. His first tour took him to Kuwait for nearly a year in 2005. The second, most recent deployment was with the 4th Marine Logistics group at Camp Taqaddum, Iraq in early January 2008. In September, Dr. Costabile returned home to his surgical practice, Virtua Surgical Group.
Dr. Costabile speaks humbly about his service. "I'm just doing my job," he said. But his reputation makes it clear that whether in the operating room or on the front line of battle, Dr. Costabile uses his experience, talent and expertise to save lives.
Dr. Costabile was recognized for his service to the community and his country as a "Community Teammate" during a recent Flyers game. Flyers Ambassador of Hockey, Bob Kelly, presented Dr. Costabile with a personalized Flyers jersey as the crowd at the Wachovia Center gave him a standing ovation.

Dr. Costabile resides with his wife in Marlton.
