Albert Thai, a Virtua laundry specialist for 25 years, works the nightshift gathering sanitized sheets, towels, scrubs and baby clothes for Virtua Voorhees hospital patients and clinical staff. In all, the hospital uses over two million pounds of laundry a year.
11 pm: Newborn arrives, needs warm bed
Frances Blank gets the call in the Voorhees Equipment Depot. NICU needs a newborn warming bed. Frances locates the bed and delivers it to hold a fragile new life.
3 am: Illness doesn’t wear a watch
Dr. Berio-Dorta, internal medicine specialist, and RN Lauren McCarthy, administer 100 percent pure oxygen to a young woman who suffered an unexpected, severe asthma attack. Soon, the patient breathes easier and drifts off to a restful sleep. Crisis averted.
