Right now, Dr. Lawrence is very excited about the latest techniques for permanent hair reduction. "It's a new type of highly specific laser that easily removes hair on the upper lip, chin, legs, under arms, even the bikini area. Three to six treatments are needed, depending on the area of the body. Naturally, it's FDA-approved. And it's much more effective than older methods of hair reduction like electrolysis."
Another breakthrough is a new type of vascular laser. It is used to remove broken blood vessels on the face, as well as help eliminate diffuse facial redness. Unlike older lasers, this new laser does not bruise the treatment area, a real plus for the patient.
Botox injections can also rejuvenate appearance. Botox is a muscle relaxant that is injected into facial muscles to relax crows feet around the eyes, forehead and frown lines at the corners of the mouth. The procedure is quite painless because the needle that is used is so fine.
Chemical peels are also popular. The lightest type of peel — an alphahydroxy acid (AHA) Peel — can give facial skin a fresher, more glowing appearance. An AHA peel is one that includes glycolic, lactic or fruit acid. This peel seems to work best on patients who have rough, sun-damaged skin. It takes about 15 minutes to perform. The results are a complexion that is more luminescent and light reflective.
