Smoothing out the rough edges
Just when you thought it was safe to polish your nails and show off your hands, your nails begin to split and peel again.
Brittle nails are a common problem that can be easily corrected. Some tips for keeping them smoother and stronger: massage hand cream into your nails and cuticles a few times each day, especially after washing your hands. When washing dishes, protect nails by wearing vinyl gloves that have a cotton lining. Finally, use nail polish remover with acetate, not acetone, which can be extremely drying.
If the problem persists or becomes especially severe, see your dermatologist or family physician. For an appointment, call 1-888-Virtua-3.
