Lean on me - healing through friendship
Roxanne Black from New Brunswick was 16 when doctors diagnosed her with lupus, a chronic inflammatory disease that can damage the body's vital organs. As a teenager with a life threatening disease, she desperately longed to talk with other lupus patients her own age. Inspired by her search, Roxanne started Friends' Health Connection, a service that connects people living with a particular illness to others who have a similar one.
Sixteen years later, Friends' Health Connection has grown into an internationally recognized organization that has touched thousands of people. This non-profit organization includes a huge support network accessible through a web site, a toll-free line as well as various lectures, workshops and medical conferences. Friends' Health Connection matches participants based upon criteria that ranges from age and health problems to attitude and interests.
Virtua Health and Friends' Health Connection have formed an affiliation in order to offer these support programs right in your own neighborhood. If you or someone you know could use the support of others facing or recovering from the same health challenges, call 1-888-Virtua-3.
