A kinder, gentler way to get rid of ugly varicose veins
"The latest treatment for varicose veins is called endovenous ablation, and it offers some patients real advantages over the more invasive method of surgically stripping out varicose veins," explains
Constantine Andrew, MD, medical director for the Vascular Surgery Program at Virtua Marlton.
"With endovenous ablation or endovenous laser treatment (EVLT), the surgeon runs a thin catheter topped with a tiny laser up into the damaged vein to seal off and shrink the vein," notes Dr. Andrew. "The procedure requires no general anesthesia, no hospital stay and only leaves a tiny incision. And, patients can be back up on their feet the day of the procedure, versus nearly two to four weeks of recovery that conventional vein stripping usually takes."
