New lenses may improve your game
We've all heard of performance-enhancing conditioning programs, but performance-enhancing contact lenses? In April 2005, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved a tinted soft contact lens that improves vision in those who play outdoor sports.
The Nike MaxSight lenses come in two tints: gray-green for bright sunlight and amber for cloudy days. Professional athletes who have tested the lenses claim better vision.
"Cosmetic lenses that change eye color are tinted in the part that covers the iris," explains Virtua ophthalmologist,
Miriam Brown, MD. "With MaxSight, the tint covers the entire lens to enhance the contrast of objects relative to their background. These lenses are designed for use only during sports, not for daily wear."
Even if you have 20/20 vision, sports-tinted contact lenses require a prescription and fitting by an eye doctor.
