Relief for stuffed up sinuses

Bookmark and Share Headaches, facial pain and congestion can make you feel lousy. Here are some tips to help open your sinuses, and make you feel better. Use moist heat. To relieve facial pain, place moist heat, such as a hot, damp towel, on your face for five to 10 minutes, several times a day. Irrigate your sinuses. Rinsing your nasal cavity flushes out excess mucus and debris while moistening the mucus membranes of the nose and sinuses. This is done by using a saltwater solution made of ¼ teaspoon salt and two cups warm water that is poured or sprayed into the nose and sinuses. You can also buy nasal irrigation kits online or at your local pharmacy. Avoid irritants. Stay away from cigarette smoke; it irritates the already inflamed nose and sinus tissues. Try over-the-counter medicine. Over-the-counter pain relievers and decongestants can help relieve headaches, pain and congestion. Breathe moist air. To help break up congestion, use a humidifier in your room at night or breathe warm, moist air from a steamy shower, hot bath, or sink filled with hot water. Drink plenty of liquids. Make sure you're drinking plenty of liquids. In addition to keeping you hydrated, water helps to thin mucus which helps drainage.
