The Russ Family did it with weight-loss surgery

So far, Vincent Russ has lost 100 pounds, Barbara Russ, 60 pounds, Kenya Russ, 70 pounds
Barbara Russ: I loved to eat, but food was not loving me back.
For years, I struggled with my relationship with food. I was overweight, hypertensive and was worried about my health. I learned that Dr. Sam Wasser, a bariatric surgeon, had a whole program mapped out for weight loss that included surgery. I did my research on bariatric procedures. After I met with Dr. Wasser, I was convinced this was my healthiest long-term option.
Vincent Russ: I was determined not to be a health statistic.
I was a skinny young man. But as I approached middle age, I kept losing and gaining back the same extra weight. I had developed high blood pressure, high cholesterol and borderline diabetes. When I learned what my wife Barbara was considering, I thought bariatric surgery might be a solution for my ongoing weight and health issues.
Kenya Russ: At 18, I was too young to feel that old.
I always felt tired because of all the extra weight I was carrying. I wanted to get back into the clothes I loved and pursue my active lifestyle. When I saw what my parents were doing, I felt this was also a smart idea for me. Another reason for maintaining a normal weight: When I eventually have children, I will be an excellent role model for them.
Dr. Wasser: The Russ family had a lot to gain. And had a lot to lose.
Each member of the family — Barbara, Vincent and Kenya — had issues with weight; each wanted a safe, more permanent solution to weight loss. The Virtua Bariatric Program was their way to go.
