Individualized & State-of-the-Art

The Virtua Cancer Program provides innovative, post-mastectomy breast reconstruction through a variety of surgical options designed to meet your unique needs. Our approach to reconstructive surgery is as individualized as your treatment plan. Our surgeons are board-certified and nationally-recognized cancer reconstruction physicians and are led by Sameer A. Patel, MD, FACS.

Our team has a 99% success rate (based on 2011-13 data) with tissue flap breast reconstruction performed at Virtua. This procedure entails taking tissue from another part of your body, often the abdomen and sometimes the buttocks or thigh, to reconstruct the breast. Because no medical implant is used, many people find the results give them a very natural look and feel — and if you select this option and your doctor decides the extra tissue is best taken from your abdomen, you may benefit from a tummy tuck along with breast reconstruction.

Other breast reconstruction options include using silicone or saline breast implants, or using a combination of the tissue flap procedure with an implant. Whichever procedure you choose, Virtua Cancer Program surgeons are here to help.
