Complex care for kids with metabolic disorders

When a hormonal imbalance occurs in children, it can cause disorders such as diabetes, hypo- or hyperthyroidism, metabolic disorders, growth disorders, cancer and obesity.

Virtua endocrinologists diagnose disorders by measuring hormones in the body and testing tissue samples, and then help patients manage their illness with an individualized care plan.

They also help care for the tiniest NICU patients who are born with metabolic disorders that prevent them from turning food into energy.

For children and teens with diabetes, Virtua provides an Outpatient Diabetes Education Program. This program offers diabetes counseling, nutrition counseling, and support groups.
