Designation Celebrates I.T. Excellence

Virtua Health has been named a Most Wired health system in the U.S. by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME). For the 11th consecutive year and the 14th time overall, this honor recognizes Virtua’s comprehensive information technology (I.T.) department for teamwork, dedication, and problem solving.

Virtua has earned recognition as a certified “level 9” health system every year since CHIME enacted a 10-level rating system in 2019. This categorization reflects leadership in health-care technology that actively advances the industry.

“At Virtua Health, we challenge ourselves to evolve, innovate, and grow. The world of information technology moves at a rapid pace, and so we owe it to ourselves, our colleagues, and our community to stay with – or ahead of – the trends,” said Tom Gordon, senior vice president and chief information officer for Virtua Health.

The mission of CHIME is “to advance and serve health care leaders and the industry improving health and care globally through the utilization of knowledge and technology.” The organization has more than 2,800 members in 51 countries.

Participation in the annual survey that determines Most Wired honorees grew by 20 percent in 2022. In a media release, Russ Branzell, president and CEO of CHIME, said this growth reflects “the major efforts underway to transform the way we deliver care as facilities up their digital game in areas such as patient engagement, clinical quality, security, and data analytics.”

“The notion of patient engagement and experience is more top-of-mind for us than ever before,” Gordon said. “While I.T. professionals are seldom in patient-facing roles, we feel a strong responsibility to empower our colleagues with the tools to deliver outstanding care with every encounter.”
