Update: Situation at Virtua Berlin
A patient presented at Virtua's Berlin hospital around 1:00 this afternoon with potential exposure to a toxic substance. The patient was isolated and a hazmat team was called. The hospital was on lock down for a short period until it was determined if the substance was toxic. It was subsequently determined to be non-toxic and not a threat to the patient.
All precautions were taken as part of our normal operating procedures. No other patients or employees were ever at risk. The hospital has been cleared as safe and has returned to normal operation. Virtua is appreciative of the work of the Cherry Hill Hazmat Team , the Berlin Police and Fire Departments, the Winslow Township Police and Fire Departments, the Waterford Township Police and Fire Departments, Camden County Emergency Services and the Prosecutor’s Office.
