Virtua receives achievement award for cancer care
The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer announced the 2013 Outstanding Achievement Award winners in May 2014. Virtua's cancer program was one of 74 programs nation-wide to receive this award.
This makes Virtua:
- One of ONLY two hospitals in New Jersey to be recognized in 2013
- The ONLY New Jersey hospital to receive the award four consecutive times
- One of ONLY 10 hospitals in the country to receive the award four consecutive times
The award acknowledges cancer programs that excel in providing quality care to cancer patients.
"It's important for the community to know that the Virtua Fox Chase Cancer Program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer," says Rich Miller, Virtua President and CEO . "The requirements for accreditation are very stringent, and we've met every one of them. In collaboration with Fox Chase, Virtua has one of the largest comprehensive cancer programs in the region seeing about 2,500 newly diagnosed cancers each year.
"Choosing an accredited program ensures that patients are getting the most comprehensive, high quality care that's coordinated throughout diagnosis, treatment and recovery," explained Miller.
"Coordinated care is exactly what people receive here at Virtua," says Miller. "Our comprehensive program includes services for prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, clinical trials , and LifeCare (ongoing support services) in collaboration with the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia." The collaboration means that Virtua's oncology panel of doctors has been recognized by Fox Chase, and ensures that they meet Fox Chase's high standards.
