Alfred Campanella is the executive vice president and chief operating officer at Virtua. He has more than 25 years of experience in health care management, patient financial services, information systems and strategic planning. In his current role, he is responsible for overseeing Virtua’s hospitals, home care agency, rehabilitation centers, information technology services, community health engagement services, strategic business growth opportunities and media relations. Prior to this role, he served as executive VP for strategic business growth, and he began his tenure at Virtua in 2008 as its Chief Information Officer.
Prior to Virtua, Campanella worked in the consulting industry for eight years, first for CTG Healthcare Solutions and later for Deloitte Consulting. As a consultant, he advised a variety of clients across the country in the areas strategic planning, change management and IT project management.
Twelve years prior to consulting work, Campanella began his career at Johns Hopkins Hospital where he was the Assistant Administrator of Surgical Sciences. He later worked at the University of Pennsylvania Health System for nearly ten years in several director-level roles in the areas of clinical department administration, patient accounting and information technology.
Campanella has a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Georgetown University, a Master's Degree in Health Finance Management from Johns Hopkins University, and a Master's Degree in Theology from Boston College.
