Heart Failure Care

Quality Measures: Heart Failure Care

Heart Failure (HF) is a chronic condition in which the heart cannot sufficiently pump blood and oxygen needed by the body. Ineffective pumping of the heart can lead to congestion and fluid build-up in the lungs and other body tissues in HF patients. Treatment goals include understanding the severity of the heart’s pumping failure in order to choose the correct medications to help the heart pump better. Other treatments include a diet designed to reduce fluid buildup in the body’s tissues.
