Recipe - Cranberry Sauce

Enjoy the delicious flavor of cranberry sauce during your next holiday dinner with half the calories of the traditional recipe.

Updated October 19, 2021

Sometimes it’s preferable to decrease the “natural” sugar content of a recipe, rather than substituting with an artificial sweetener. The following cranberry sauce recipe cuts the maple syrup in half (also cutting the calories almost in half) but maintains the unique flavors of maple syrup and spices.

Also, adds great color and flavor to plain regular or Greek yogurt and topped with walnuts.

Ingredients

  • 1 qt. fresh cranberries (or 12 oz. bag)
  • ¾ cup maple syrup
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp. cardamom
  • ¼ tsp. ground cloves

Directions

  • Bring all ingredients to a boil and then simmer.
  • When berries soften, squish them with a spoon and continue to simmer until the sauce thickens.
  • Serve warm or cold.
  • Enjoy with poultry and pork.
