Virtua Hospitals Receive an "A" for Patient Safety in National Survey

The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization committed to driving quality, safety, and transparency in the U.S. health care system, today released new Fall 2017 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, which assign A, B, C, D and F letter grades to hospitals nationwide.  For the seventh consecutive listing, all three Virtua Hospitals (Virtua Memorial, Virtua Marlton and Virtua Voorhees) were included in the 823 hospitals to receive an “A” for its commitment to reducing errors, infections, and accidents that can harm patients.

“The momentum continues with “A” ratings from the prestigious Leapfrog Group for all three Virtua hospitals,” said Dennis Pullin, Virtua President and CEO.  “These ratings are a tribute to our physicians and staff, for the care and commitment that distinguishes Virtua as a premier healthcare system. I am so proud of the work they do.”

“It takes consistent, unwavering dedication to patients to achieve the highest standards of patient safety. An ‘A’ Safety Grade recognizes hospitals for this accomplishment,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the clinicians, Board, management and staff of all three Virtua hospitals for showing the country what it means to put patient safety first.”

Developed under the guidance of a Blue Ribbon National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
