Vaccine Mega-Site to Provide COVID-19 Protection to Babies and Toddlers Starting Friday, June 24

Burlington County COVID-19 Vaccine Mega-Site to Offer Specially Trained Vaccinators for Newly Eligible Recipients ages 6 months through 4 years old

June 23, 2022 – The Burlington County COVID-19 Vaccine Mega-Site, located in Mount Laurel, will respond to widening vaccination eligibility by providing the Pfizer vaccine to children ages 6 months through 4 years old, beginning Friday, June 24. Nurses, paramedics, and others health care professionals with training and experience caring for pediatric patients will administer the long-awaited doses to young vaccine recipients.

The mega-site is located at 1190 Nixon Drive inside the East Gate Square shopping center, near a Home Depot and Party City, and only minutes from the original mega-site at the Moorestown Mall. Ample free parking is available.

“Many families are looking forward to the peace-of-mind of having their entire household vaccinated,” said Phyllis Worrell, emergency management coordinator for Virtua Health and the health care coordinator for the Burlington County Office of Emergency Management. “Daycares, schools, and summer camps are places where germs and viruses can easily spread from one child to the next, so this protects little ones and those who care for them – including grandparents and others who may not be in the best health.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) now recommends COVID-19 vaccinations for all people six months and older. The mega-site primarily carries the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, and will begin providing those between 6 months through 4 years with pediatric doses of the Pfizer product.

The vaccine is free to recipients, and health insurance is not required.

According to the CDC, those 6 months through 4 years should receive three doses of the Pfizer vaccine in the primary series. The first and second doses are separated by three to eight weeks. The second and third doses are separated by at least eight weeks. (The timetable is compressed for children who have a weakened immune system.)

The recommendation for the Moderna vaccine is different in terms of eligible ages and the number of doses. Visit the CDC website for details. The mega-site does not presently carry the Moderna vaccine for children.

The mega-site has operated in this location since December 2021. (The previous mega-site, located inside a former Lord & Taylor department store, operated from January to July 2021.) The Burlington County COVID-19 Vaccine Mega-Site is a state-run facility supported by Burlington County and Virtua Health.

The mega-site continues to offer COVID-19 vaccines and boosters to people over age 5, as well.
