Virtua Health Recognized for Excellence in Technology for 10th Consecutive Year

“Most Wired” designation spotlights how innovative technology can improve
patient experience and outcomes.

October 15, 2021 - Virtua Health has been named a Most Wired health system in the U.S. by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME). For the tenth straight year and the 13th time overall, this recognition highlights Virtua’s exceptional teamwork, dedication, and innovative technology, which upholds its status as a leader in health care.

Virtua has earned 2021 CHIME Digital Health Most Wired recognition as a certified level 9 health system – level 9 reflects leaders in healthcare technology who actively push the industry forward. These top-rated organizations are realizing meaningful outcomes, including improved quality of care, improved patient experience, reduced costs, and broader patient access to health care services. As the world has realized, innovative health care technology has never been more important than during the last 18 months of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This year presented a number of new challenges – including the need to schedule and process more than 400,000 COVID-19 vaccine appointments and over 225,000 telehealth appointments. Throughout it all, our teams demonstrated creativity and problem-solving skills and – more importantly – a deeply held commitment to do right by the people in our community,” said Tom Gordon, senior vice president and chief information officer for Virtua Health.

The mission of the CHIME Digital Health Most Wired program is to elevate the health and health care of communities around the world through the optimal use of information technology. The annual survey identifies and recognizes healthcare organizations that exemplify best practices through their adoption, implementation, and use of information technology.

“Digital transformation in health care has accelerated to an unprecedented level since 2020, and the next few years will bring a wave of innovation that empowers health care consumers and will astound the industry,” said CHIME President and CEO Russell P. Branzell. “The Digital Health Most Wired program recognizes the outstanding digital leaders who have paved the way for this imminent revolution in healthcare.”

CIO Tom Gordon is proud of Virtua’s position at the forefront of innovative technology, and how that position supports the health and wellness of people in Virtua’s service area. “Most Wired is about more than technology. It’s about the ways we implement technology to make life easier and better for people.”
