Virtua Health has been named a Most Wired health system in the U.S. by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME). This recognition, for the ninth straight year and the 12th time overall, highlights Virtua’s exceptional teamwork, innovation, and dedication in the field of health care technology.

This year, Virtua achieved Digital Health Certified Acute LEVEL 9 and received the Performance Excellence Award. According to CHIME, Most Wired recognition is the result of annual surveys conducted to identify, recognize, and certify the adoption, implementation, and use of information technology by health care organizations. The goal of the program is to elevate the health and care of communities around the world by encouraging the optimal use of information technology.

"As a level 9 organization, Virtua is being recognized as a leader in health care technology that propels the industry forward by utilizing advanced technologies in innovative ways across the system,” said Tom Gordon, senior vice president and chief information officer for Virtua Health. “Virtua’s focus has been on meaningful outcomes, such as extensive access to healthcare services, improved patient experience and quality of care, and reduced costs.”

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented many challenges to the health care industry this year. Virtua has risen to the challenge by advancing a variety of technologies to support patient experiences and outcomes, including telehealth solutions and tools to engage patients and their families throughout the care process during a pandemic.

On November 1, Gordon and his information technology team completed a noteworthy transition — the digital transformation at Lourdes Medical Associates (LMA), Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, and Virtua Willingboro Hospital, which were part of the acquisition of Lourdes Health System last year.

“Virtua’s plans to upgrade these locations to a more modern infrastructure environment and implement highly reliable clinical and technological systems that will unify technology and processes to help ensure a consistent patient experience across Virtua,” explained Gordon.

Gordon views the Most Wired designation as a testament to the collaborative efforts of the Virtua Health System — clinical and operational colleagues and IT staff.

“Virtua’s success as a Most Wired organization is not just about technology. It is truly the result of a partnership of people working to maximize patient safety,” concluded Gordon.
