Virtua Launches Pediatric Mobile Services Unit
Virtua officially launched its new Pediatric Mobile Services Unit, which will bring much-needed services to children via a colorful and fully customized van. This program allows Virtua’s pediatric specialists to travel to areas of greatest need throughout South Jersey and provide care to children from infancy to 5 years of age.
The services include developmental screenings (often referred to as early intervention), dental screenings and oral health education, flu shots, lead poisoning education, and more. When necessary, the mobile unit staff can also make referrals to specialists.
The new program is currently available in the City of Camden, but will eventually serve children living in medically underserved and impoverished urban and rural communities across Burlington, Camden, and Gloucester counties.
The Joseph Lacroce Foundation, founded by philanthropist Sam Lacroce, donated one million dollars to Virtua Foundation to fund the Pediatric Mobile Services Unit. Mr. Lacroce has been an avid supporter of Virtua for many years through his annual Carz N’ Toyz Toy Drive for hospitalized children, among other fundraisers.
“We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of our friends at the Joseph Lacroce Foundation,” said Dennis W. Pullin, president and CEO of Virtua. “Because of their generosity today and throughout the years, Virtua is transforming care for children in our community.”
