Virtua Memorial Unit Receives Beacon Award for Excellence in Nursing
The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) recently presented the 2 North / Progressive Care Unit at Virtua Memorial with a silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence. Previously the Mt. Holly, N.J., hospital received the Beacon Award for Excellence for its Special Care Nursey (2017) and Intensive Care Unit (2016).
The Beacon Award for Excellence represents a significant milestone in exceptional patient care and healthy work environments. Specifically, the award recognizes caregivers who improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s Healthy Work Environment Standards.
“Nursing is a call to be a beacon of light and hope in someone’s darkness; that is why it is an honor to receive an award from the organization that sets the standard for excellence in patient-care environments, outcomes, and satisfaction,” says Melissa Zak, MBA, BSN, RN, CPN, NEA-BC, vice president of patient care services at Virtua Memorial. “I congratulate the PCU team for their well-earned achievement.”
Only two other hospitals in New Jersey have earned this distinction in the Progressive Care Unit.
Earlier in 2018, Virtua Marlton earned a silver-level Beacon of Excellence Award for its Intensive Care Unit. In 2015, the Intensive Care Unit at Virtua Voorhees received the gold-level award.
