Virtua Scores Hat Trick in Patient Safety

Virtua’s three hospitals earned straight A’s in patient safety for the third consecutive time in the latest rankings of the independent hospital watchdog, The Leapfrog Group.

“Virtua’s “A” grade is a powerful reminder of its commitment to putting patient safety above all else, and we are pleased to recognize the persistent efforts of its clinicians and staff to protect its patients,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Our families, neighbors, colleagues and friends deserve a hospital that will pull out all the stops to keep them safe, and we urge Virtua and all other “A” hospitals to preserve and renew their commitment to safety year after year.”

Leapfrog’s bi-annual Hospital Safety Score – which measures how well hospitals protect patients from errors, injuries, accidents and infections – is becoming the gold standard for rating patient safety. Virtua’s hospitals in Marlton, Mount Holly and Voorhees also garnered straight A’s last spring and in the fall of 2014.

"We are very proud that all of our hospitals have once again achieved ‘A’ ratings from the prestigious Leapfrog Group," said Virtua President and CEO Richard P. Miller, who added that rigorous training and monitoring ensure patient safety from the simplest to the most technologically advanced procedures.

“This excellent rating is a much deserved recognition of the exceptional care and commitment Virtua physicians and staff provide every single day," Miller said.

The Hospital Safety Score uses 28 national performance measures to not only grade hospitals but also provide consumers with information they can use while choosing which hospital to go to for care. It is the first and only patient safety score to be peer-reviewed in the Journal of Patient Safety.
