Highlighting its achievements in patient safety and quality, The Leapfrog Group named Virtua Voorhees a Top Teaching Hospital in the nation for the fifth consecutive year. The recently announced award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive honors American hospitals can receive.

“We truly appreciate this acknowledgement as a Top Teaching Hospital because it recognizes our commitment to passing along clinical excellence to future generations of healthcare providers,” said Dennis W. Pullin, FACHE, Virtua President and CEO. “Our residency programs not only provide invaluable medical training, but a meaningful understanding of what it means to dedicate yourself to delivering compassionate care.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent hospital watchdog organization, awards the Top Hospital designation. Virtua Voorhees is one of 53 teaching hospitals in the nation to earn this distinction. Virtua’s residency programs in pharmacy, podiatry, and family medicine provide medical residents the opportunity to learn and provide services at Virtua Voorhees. The Voorhees hospital also earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group in November 2018.

Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates, maternity care, and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication errors. The rigorous standards are defined in each year’s Top Hospital Methodology.

“Being acknowledged as a Top Hospital is an incredible feat achieved by less than six percent of eligible hospitals nationwide,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “With this honor, Virtua Voorhees has established its commitment to safer and higher quality care. Providing this level of care to patients in southern New Jersey requires motivation and drive from every team member.”

To qualify for the Top Hospitals distinction, hospitals must submit a Leapfrog Hospital Survey and achieve highest performance in its category. The selection of Top Hospitals 2018 is based on surveys from nearly 1,900 hospitals. To see the full list of institutions honored as 2018 Top Hospitals, visit www.leapfroggroup.org/tophospitals.
