Note: With the rise in COVID-19 cases throughout New Jersey, we understand the need for COVID-19 testing. However, Virtua Health’s Emergency Departments (and Urgent Care Centers) do not serve as community testing sites and do not provide COVID-19 testing for asymptomatic individuals.

Testing for asymptomatic individuals, as well as those needing testing for return to work/school, travel, or other personal reasons, can be scheduled at a local New Jersey state testing facility using the following link: https://covid19.nj.gov/pages/testing.

You also may schedule appointments with local pharmacies and other sites offering community testing in your area.

Emergency Department Wait Times: What Do These Numbers Mean?

Wait times represent the average estimated length of time from registration upon arrival to seeing a licensed independent practitioner (doctor, nurse practitioner or physician assistant). Times displayed for Virtua Emergency Departments are:

  • Reported as an average of wait times for the previous 2 hours of patients that have presented to the emergency department and have been seen by a provider

  • Refreshed at least every 15 minutes
Many circumstances can affect wait times - for example, patients arriving by ambulance or with life-threatening injuries or illnesses. Patients with severe conditions will be seen before those with less-serious problems or ailments. These times are provided for informational purposes only and cannot be guaranteed upon arrival.
