Advanced Critical Care
When you or a loved one’s life may depend on it, remember that we take emergency care beyond the typical ambulance care. Virtua’s paramedic teams are certified to provide advanced life support outside a hospital setting.
They’ve received thousands of hours of training so that they can safely and quickly administer drugs, interpret electrocardiograms (EKGs), perform intubations, and use monitors and other complex equipment.
These highly-trained emergency specialists work alongside other members of your local rescue squad to make sure you arrive at the hospital in as stable a condition as possible. Typically, they arrive on the scene in a mobile intensive care unit (MICU) that will follow your ambulance to the hospital while another paramedic joins you in your ambulance.
Prepared for Emergencies
With 11 advanced life support units (ALS) and more than 165 full- and part-time paramedics are always at the ready for any emergency throughout Burlington and Camden County. An extension of this service includes the highly mobile Paramedic Bike Team, which is available during community events at no cost so that expert care is always easily accessible.
Also, Virtua's EMS team received the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline® EMS Silver Award for implementing quality improvement measures for the treatment of patients who experience severe heart attacks.
Innovative Technology
Virtua's EMS team uses innovative life-saving technology that provides predictive analytics to identify and assign the fastest EMS resource using actual location and actual recommended route between a real-time Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) and the incident. This technology allows Virtua EMS to provide the most efficient level of service for the communities Virtua serves. Learn more.
