With hospice care, patients and loved ones are able to maintain a closeness, as patients are more comfortable and family has support in providing care.The goal of hospice care is not to cure disease but to provide the best quality of life during a loved one’s final stages of illness. Hospice care treats symptoms related to illness such as cancer, heart or lung disease, kidney failure or dementia, and may include nausea, fatigue, shortness of breath, loss of appetite, anxiety, sleeplessness, depression and more.
Hospice care is fully covered by Medicare, Medicaid, VA and most insurance plans.
Virtua has partnered with Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice to offer inpatient hospice care. The Samaritan Inpatient Hospice Center at Virtua Mount Holly Hospital provides 12 private rooms in comfortable, home-like surroundings. Samaritan staff provide comfort care around the clock in short-term stays when your loved one’s pain or symptoms require more intensive medical supervision than is recommended in the home. The Center is designed to provide a welcoming environment for you and your loved ones. Samaritan also has an inpatient hospice center on the campus of Virtua Voorhees. Both inpatient sites include the following supportive amenities:
- 24-hour visitation and a sleeping recliner for immediate family
- Pet visitation by appointment
- Kitchen
- Children’s play area
- Family room
