Comprehensive Inpatient Physical Rehabilitation
Finding an inpatient rehabilitation services center that offers safe, high-quality care and best matches the needs of you and your family is an important step when recovering from a stroke, neurologic injury, orthopedic surgery, or other medical condition.
The Virtua Acute Rehabilitation Center, located within Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, provides inpatient rehabilitation services and care for individuals with multiple medical conditions. This includes patients recovering from:
- Stroke with functional deficits
- Brain injury
- Open-heart surgery
- Complex fractures or trauma
- Spinal cord injury
- Significant functional deficits from a neurologic disorder such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, motor neuron disease, polyneuropathy, post-polio syndrome, or Guillain-Barre syndrome
- Amputation of a lower extremity and need for prosthetic training
- Bilateral joint replacement or hip fracture
- Complicated single joint replacement
The center is specially designed to accommodate people needing dialysis, transfusions, special feeding (PEG) tubes, and tracheostomies.
The Acute Care Difference
Unlike most rehab centers, which are licensed as long-term care facilities, Virtua Acute Rehabilitation Center is accredited by The Joint Commission and is licensed as a rehabilitation hospital by the New Jersey Department of Health.
Our interdisciplinary care teams—doctors specializing in rehabilitation medicine, registered nurses, social workers, and physical, occupational, and speech therapists—are specifically designed to meet your individual needs, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
What to Expect at Virtua
You will receive at least three hours of inpatient rehabilitation therapy daily, often starting the day of your admission. Working in the center’s therapy gym, you will obtain the skills needed to return home, including walking, going up and down stairs, getting dressed, and preparing meals.
You’ll meet with your therapy team at least once a week to discuss your progress and goals as you work toward renewed activity. Family involvement is a defining aspect of our program, and whenever possible, loved ones are invited to attend therapy sessions so they can help you practice your new skills at home.
If a medical complication does arise during your stay, the advanced diagnostic and treatment services of Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital are only steps away—no calling 911 and waiting for an ambulance to arrive.
