Virtua received a HealthGrades' Patient Safety Excellence Award, which recognizes hospitals that have the lowest occurrences of 14 preventable patient safety events. The recognized hospitals are in the top 10% in the nation for patient safety.
Virtua was recognized as one of the top-100 healthcare organizations in the nation for medical excellence and patient safety by CareChex, a division of Comparion Medical Analytics.
Virtua Voorhees Hospital received the Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award for Patient Satisfaction – a health care symbol of achievement based on patient surveys. Consumer Choice Award
Virtua Voorhees received the Consumer Choice Award from the National Research Corporation in its annual survey of consumers. Consumer Choice winners are determined by consumer perceptions on multiple quality and image ratings collected in National Research’s Market Insights survey, which is the largest online consumer healthcare survey in the U.S.
U.S. News & World Report Rankings
Virtua Voorhees achieved "Best Regional Hospital" in the U.S. News & World Report rankings and evaluations. Virtua Voorhees and Virtua Memorial achieved high performing status from the national publication. Voorhees scored "high performing" for five conditions and diseases: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery, heart failure, hip replacement, and knee replacement. Virtua Marlton was included when evaluating the performance of Virtua Voorhees. Virtua Memorial also scored “high performing” for COPD and heart failure.
The intensive care unit (ICU) at Virtua Voorhees received a Beacon Award for Excellence (Gold) by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. The three-year designation recognizes quality through metrics that demonstrate exceptional care and collaboration. The ICU at Virtua Marlton and Memorial also received Beacon Awards for Excellence. In addition, the Special Care Nursery at Virtua Memorial received a Beacon Award for Excellence (Silver).
Virtua was granted the High Performing Hospital Award for quality and efficient care by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, the state’s largest health insurer, in recognition of the health system’s consistent run of A grades in Leapfrog Hospital Safety Scores.
Virtua Voorhees and Virtua Marlton received the Academy of MedSurg Nursing's Premier Recognition In the Specialty of Med-Surg (PRISM) Award®. The award acknowledges the professional Registered Nurse as well as the entire patient care team who practice in a supportive environment in order to achieve and sustain outstanding patient and staff satisfaction outcomes.
Atrial Fibrillation Care
Virtua Memorial Hospital received the Get With The Guidelines® AFIB Bronze Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology/Heart Rhythm Society guidelines for the management of patients with atrial fibrillation.
Virtua Memorial was named a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). The Center of Excellence designation recognizes surgical programs that have a demonstrated track record of favorable outcomes, a commitment of resources, and clinical expertise to care for the bariatric weight-loss surgical patient. The Bariatric Surgery Program also achieved a “Comprehensive Center” National Accreditation from MBSAQIP (The Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program).
Virtua's Breast Program has been accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. To earn this accreditation, a breast program must demonstrate a firm commitment to offering its patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease.
Virtua's Oncology Program is fully accredited with commendation designation by the Commission on Cancer, a program administered by the American College of Surgeons (ACoS). Virtua's program received an Outstanding Achievement Award from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer for the fourth consecutive year. Virtua is one of 74 nationally accredited cancer programs to win this award, which serves to raise the bar on quality cancer care and increase awareness about quality choices among cancer patients and their loved ones.
Virtua received an American Heart Association 2016 New Jersey American Heartsaver Award for taking extraordinary steps to strengthen the chain of survival in its communities through the launch of an innovative CPR mobile app to help save lives within Burlington County.
Virtua's Center for Nutrition and Diabetes Services received the Education Recognition Certificate for a quality Diabetes Self-Management education program from the American Diabetes Association. The ADA acknowledges that Virtua's program offers high-quality diabetes self-management education which is an essential component of effective diabetes treatment. Education Recognition status is verified by an official certificate from the ADA and is awarded for three years.
Emergency Medical Services
Virtua received the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline® EMS Silver Award for implementing quality improvement measures for the treatment of patients who experience severe heart attacks.
Virtua Center for HealthFitness - Washington Township was named "Best Gym" in Philadelphia Magazine's Best of Philly publication. The Center for HealthFitness provides a wide range of fitness options to satisfy total fitness and health and wellness needs.
Virtua Home Care was ranked as one of the top 100 home-health agencies nationwide for achieving a balance in quality outcomes, quality improvement and financial performance. Home Health Line, the industry's leading news publication, and Outcome Concept Systems compared Virtua's program to more than 7,400 agencies within the country.
Joint ReplacementVirtua Joint Replacement Institute was recognized with an Aetna Institutes of Quality (IOQ) designation, which is given to facilities that provide excellent orthopaedic services and meet certain standards for clinical quality, cost efficiency, and network access for specific orthopaedic surgery programs in the IOQ network.
Maternal Fetal Medicine
Virtua's Maternal Fetal Medicine program was awarded a two-year accreditation in the area of “obstetric ultrasound” from the Ultrasound Practice Accreditation Council. The award is presented to practices which meet rigorous voluntary guidelines set by the diagnostic ultrasound profession.
Virtua's nutrition program was selected as a Global Center of Excellence for Nutrition Support by Abbott Pharmaceuticals. Virtua was selected because of its commitment to and pursuit of excellence in patient care, especially as it relates to nutrition.
Designated a Regional Perinatal Center by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, Virtua provides a full range of maternity services and testing for low- and high-risk pregnant women and advanced care for high-risk newborns.
Virtua’s Centers for Sleep Medicine in Cherry Hill, Marlton, Voorhees and Westampton have received accreditation in sleep medicine as the result of a survey by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), the national accrediting body for sleep centers.

Virtua Memorial Hospital was designated an Aetna Institute of Quality (IOQ) for its spine surgery program. Designated IOQ facilities demonstrate excellence in care, a commitment to continuous improvement and represent an exceptional value to its members. The goal of Aetna’s IOQ is to assist members in choosing facilities that provide consistently high-quality and high-value care.
Virtua Memorial Hospital is also pleased to announce that we have been designated a Blue Distinction® Center for Spine Surgery by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
Blue Distinction® is a nationwide program of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) that recognizes facilities that have demonstrated expertise in delivering high quality healthcare and improved outcomes for patients.
In addition to our designation as a Blue Distinction Center for Spine Surgery, Virtua Memorial has also met the BCBSA’s specific set of rigorous standards to be designated as a Blue Distinction Center for Specialty Care in Knee and Hip Replacement.
The Philadelphia Soul selected Virtua's Concussion Awareness Program to receive a “Soulie Award” in the category of “Best Community Outreach Program.” The concussion program educates youth football coaches, parents and athletes on how to prevent, recognize and care for concussion injuries as well as provide tools to help keep athletes safe.
All three Virtua hospitals are designated Primary Stroke Centers by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services. Virtua's hospitals in Marlton and Voorhees received the Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association for the treatment of stroke patients. Virtua Memorial received the "Get with the Guidelines" Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The Get With The Guidelines award recognizes hospitals that have a dedicated stroke unit, as well as a comprehensive system for rapid diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients admitted through the emergency department.
Virtua Express Urgent Care has received the Certified Urgent Care designation which distinguishes it for excellence in urgent care services. Virtua Express treats a large scope of medical conditions and has met all of the Urgent Care Association of America’s established criteria. With its certification, Virtua Express Urgent Care and the Urgent Care Association of America demonstrate their commitment toward providing patients with access to appropriate levels of care.
InformationWeek Top 500 Information Technology Innovator
Virtua has been named to InformationWeek's 500 list of technology innovators. InformationWeek identifies and honors the nation's most innovative users of information technology with its annual InformationWeek 500 listing, and also tracks the technology, strategies, investments, and administrative practices of some of the best‐known organizations in the country.
Most Wired Hospital
Virtua’s excellence in technology earned official recognition as one of the Most Wired hospitals, a status achieved by only 375 of the nearly 6,000 registered hospitals in the country. The Most Wired designation is a key measurement that highlights the success of an Information Technology program. Through innovation and collaboration, Virtua has steadily built advanced technology and processes leading to comprehensive IT solutions based around quality, safety, and efficiency for Virtua patients and employees.

Virtua was a top honors recipient for employee engagement in a survey conducted by HR Solutions, an independent human resources consulting firm. Virtua ranked No. 1 nationally in employee engagement compared with more than 500 U.S. healthcare organizations. Virtua received also took top honors in employee satisfaction.
Virtua was honored by the Philadelphia Business Journal for its focus on employee wellness programs, receiving a Healthiest Workplace Award.
Employee Wellness/Cancer Prevention
Virtua's employee wellness program received CEO Cancer Gold Standard re-accreditation from the CEO Roundtable. To earn Gold Standard accreditation, an organization must establish programs to reduce cancer risk through discouraging tobacco use; encouraging physical activity and teaching diet and nutrition; detecting cancer at its earliest stages; and providing access to quality care and clinical trials.
Start! Fit-Friendly Company
Virtua's unique Wellness Program was honored for the fifth-straight year by the American Heart Association for its innovative and successful approach to employees' health and wellness. The program received the Fit-Friendly Platinum award. Virtua is one of only 14 organizations in the Northeast United States to obtain the platinum-level Fit-Friendly Company award, the highest level of achievement the AHA offers for worksite wellness campaigns that help employees eat better and increase exercise.
Business Leadership Award
Virtua was honored by JEVS Human Services, one of the largest social service agencies in the region, for routinely hiring job candidates with disabilities and other challenges as well as training and preparing all its employees for productive careers.
Joint Commission Accreditation
The Joint Commission, which is an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits healthcare organizations and programs, has accredited all Virtua hospital services as well as Virtua’s home care agencies, long-term care organizations and laboratories.
The Joint Commission’s hospital standards address important functions relating to the care of patients and the management of hospitals. The Joint Commission develops its standards in consultation with health care experts, providers and researchers, as well as measurement experts, purchasers and consumers. To earn and maintain accreditation, a hospital must undergo an on-site survey by a Joint Commission survey team.
The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits more than 20,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States, including more than 10,600 hospitals and home care organizations, and more than 6,600 other health care organizations.
All of Virtua's clinical services including hospitals, long-term care and rehabilitation centers, ambulatory sites and outpatient services are licensed by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services.
The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services has also licensed the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Virtua Marlton as a full-service diagnostic catheterization laboratory. And the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Virtua Memorial is licensed as a low-risk cardiac catheterization diagnostic facility by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services.
