Forbes Names Virtua Health a Best Employer in New Jersey for 6th Year

August 20, 2024 - South Jersey’s Largest Health System Continues to Enhance its Caring Culture

August 20, 2024

Virtua Health, South Jersey's largest health system, has again earned national recognition as one of the best places to work. Forbes magazine named Virtua among America's Best Employers by State for 2024.

This prestigious award is presented by Forbes and Statista Inc., a statistics portal and industry ranking provider. The list of honorees can be viewed on the Forbes website.

Virtua has made the Forbes list annually since its inception six years ago. The not-for-profit health system was also named last year to Modern Healthcare's national “Best Places to Work in Healthcare” list. And Virtua has received similar accolades from other entities over the years.

“Virtua has a longstanding commitment to fostering a caring culture, which extends from how we treat each patient to how we treat fellow staff members,” said Rhonda Jordan, SHRM-SCP, executive vice president and chief human resources officer for Virtua. “Our Culture of WE enables us to attract and retain caring, dedicated people who share our passion to be ‘here for good.’”

Over the past year, Virtua has further advanced its caring culture and continuous learning through a nationally recognized program called Practicing Excellence. The organization-wide initiative helps all colleagues connect back to joy and purpose through shared learning and the practicing of skills to more deeply engage with, show respect for, and support others.

“Virtua’s teams are focused on communication, teamwork, and human understanding – which supports greater fulfillment and results in an enhanced experience for everyone,” said Virtua President and CEO Dennis W. Pullin, FACHE.

“Many staff members have been with Virtua for decades,” said Jordan. “We’re very proud of our incredible workforce, and we’re committed to ongoing improvement as both a leading employer and care provider.”

Forbes and Statista chose the award recipients based on an independent survey of over 160,000 workers from all industries at companies employing more than 500 people in the United States.

The evaluation was made on a state-by-state basis. Participants were asked to identify employers both in their state and nationally that stand out either positively or negatively. They were also asked to rate their own employers and provide feedback on work conditions, diversity, salary, potential for development, and the like.

Marlton, N.J.-based Virtua is especially distinct for its commitment to inclusion, diversity, and equity (IDE). The organization has equipped its board of trustees and senior management to incorporate the values of IDE across Virtua and beyond.

Additionally, Virtua has a unique array of employee affinity groups – called Colleague Communities – which offer safe spaces to share, listen, and learn. These include the Black and African American Colleague Community, Women at Virtua, O.U.T. at Virtua (for LGBTQ+ colleagues and allies), VirtuAsia, WE Serve (for military members and veterans), ¡Hola! (for Hispanic and Latino colleagues), and Gen V (for younger colleagues).
