U.S. News & World Report recently released its third annual list of Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) nationwide. This year, 13 of Virtua’s 42 joint-venture ambulatory surgery centers achieved “high performing” status in at least one specialty—an increase of seven from last year. Recognized specialties include orthopedics and spine, ophthalmology, colonoscopy and endoscopy, and urology.

Ambulatory surgical centers provide streamlined, same-day surgical and diagnostic procedures, focusing on efficiency and patient comfort while reducing patient costs. This year, U.S. News & World Report evaluated 4,421 ASCs nationwide. Of those, only 911 (21%) met the rigorous standards for patient safety and clinical outcomes.

The rankings are based on an analysis of Medicare fee-for-service claims from 2022–2024, focusing on patient safety, clinical outcomes, and the reduction of complications. The top-rated facilities have lower rates of ER visits and hospital admissions, and fewer complications.

“We are incredibly proud that so many of our ASCs earned High Performing recognition from U.S. News & World Report,” said Barry Graf, senior vice president of partnerships and business development at Virtua Health. “This achievement reflects the skill, dedication, and unwavering commitment of our surgical teams, who consistently deliver exceptional care across a wide range of specialties. It’s a significant confirmation of the high‑quality, patient‑centered experience we strive to provide every day.”
