Whether you have signs of heart disease or are struggling to manage angina, you can count on Virtua. Our heart and vascular specialists can help if you have — or are at risk for — cardiovascular disease.

Our Approach to Heart Care

At Virtua, we want to keep your heart as strong as possible, for as long as possible. And we aim to prevent or relieve symptoms that can affect your quality of life.

When you’re diagnosed with a cardiovascular problem early — and receive care promptly — it’s easier to treat. That’s why we’re committed to getting you the right treatment as quickly as possible.

We do this by:

  • Offering you options: We know one size does not fit all when it comes to your heart health. We’ll address your specific symptoms and discuss the full range of treatments options.
  • Partnering with other providers: We often bring together cardiologists, heart surgeons, and other heart specialists to discuss the best treatment plan for you. With multiple experts considering your needs, you can have more confidence in your care.
  • Using the latest diagnostic technology: We have advanced tests that can accurately identify certain conditions early. For example, coronary CT angiography helps us pinpoint early signs of coronary artery disease.
  • Providing advanced open-heart surgery: Our heart surgeons specialize in coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). In some cases, they can operate without having a bypass machine take over your heart and lung function during surgery.

Less invasive treatments

Cardiac catheterization procedures (also known as interventional procedures) let us diagnose and treat certain cardiovascular conditions without open heart surgery. For example, we can address plaque build-up inside a blood vessel with a rotating device (atherectomy). We can reopen a blocked artery with a tiny balloon (angioplasty) and keep it open with a mesh tube (stent). And we can replace your aortic valve without opening your chest (transcatheter aortic valve replacement, or TAVR).

Leaders in cardiology research

Many of our cardiologists lead and participate in cardiovascular disease research. We offer clinical trials for promising new treatments like arrhythmia medicine and cholesterol-lowering drugs. This means you may have access to innovative treatments that are not yet widely available.

Cardiovascular care for women

Heart disease affects women differently than men. For example, as a woman you may have different heart attack symptoms than men. Fortunately, our women’s heart disease specialists are here to help you prevent, catch, or treat cardiovascular problems early. This includes problems that are relatively rare but more likely to affect women (such as coronary microvascular disease).
