Complex Care for Kids with Metabolic Disorders
When a hormonal imbalance occurs in children, it can cause disorders such as diabetes, hypo- or hyperthyroidism, metabolic disorders, growth disorders, cancer and obesity.
Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) at Virtua endocrinologists diagnose disorders by measuring hormones in the body and testing tissue samples. Then, they treat these disorders with personalized care plans that help children overcome or manage their condition.
They also help care for the tiniest NICU patients who are born with metabolic disorders that prevent them from turning food into energy.
For children and teens with diabetes, CHOP at Virtua clinicians provide an Outpatient Diabetes Education Program. This program offers diabetes counseling, nutrition counseling, and support groups.
