Virtua Health, South Jersey's largest health system, has appointed Nicole Lamborne, MD, MBA, president of Virtua Voorhees Hospital and Virtua Marlton Hospital and a senior vice president for Virtua Health.

A respected physician and leader in women's and children's health, Dr. Lamborne brings more than a decade of administrative and operational experience to her new role. She will lead the two hospitals’ operations, strategy, quality, and patient experience, while continuing to oversee Virtua's women’s and children's services across the Virtua system.

"I look forward to working alongside our dedicated colleagues to advance Virtua's mission of helping people be well, get well, and stay well."

Most recently, Dr. Lamborne served as vice president of clinical operations for women's and children's services. In that role, she provided enterprise leadership across multiple hospitals and outpatient settings and was accountable for clinical quality and safety, physician alignment, workforce strategy, and program development. She partnered closely with hospital presidents, chief nursing officers, and system leaders to advance Virtua's strategic priorities and continually improve care delivery.

Dr. Lamborne's accomplishments have helped advance Virtua as a regional and national leader in maternal and child health. Under her guidance, Virtua earned national recognition for maternal care quality and Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes became one of only 26 hospitals in the United States recognized for addressing racial disparities in cesarean delivery and hypertension outcomes. She also launched New Jersey's first hospital-owned, freestanding midwifery birth center. In addition, she established an OB/GYN physician residency program whose inaugural class achieved a 100% board-certification pass rate.

Throughout her tenure, Dr. Lamborne has championed initiatives that improve clinical outcomes, expand access to care, advance health equity, and enhance the patient experience. This includes the system-wide adoption of the TeamBirth evidence-based model that supports those giving birth to feel heard, respected, and included in their care. She also led the creation of Virtua’s doula services program in 2025.

Dr. Lamborne earned her medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Cooper Hospital/University Medical Center. She later earned a master of business administration in healthcare management from the University of Scranton. Board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Lamborne is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

She succeeds Mark Nessel, who is retiring after a distinguished career, including many years overseeing Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden.
