Question of the Week

Do I need a GYN exam/Pap smear every year?

You do need a yearly GYN and pelvic exam, but the Pap smear (the test that screens for cervical cancer) is only a part of the pelvic exam, and annual Pap smears may no longer be advised if you have normal test results. During your annual GYN visit, your doctor also checks for skin cancer, uterine masses, pelvic floor issues, sexually transmitted infections, cervical polyps, breast cancer, and more.
