Caring Maternity Team Transforms Harley's Pregnancy Crisis Into Lasting Memories

Diagnosed with preeclampsia, Harley Earley required special care until she could safely deliver daughter Wrenley.

Updated August 01, 2025

Harley Earley enjoyed a happy, healthy pregnancy until she reached 31 weeks. While at work, she noticed her hands were swollen, making it difficult to type. Her concerned coworker took her blood pressure, which was alarmingly high, and urged her to see her doctor immediately.

“I was reluctant initially because I had an OB appointment in two days,” said Harley. Her coworker was persistent, though, checking her blood pressure every hour. She eventually convinced Harley to seek medical attention.

An Unexpected Preeclampsia Diagnosis

Harley’s doctor diagnosed her with preeclampsia, which is pregnancy-induced high blood pressure that requires hospitalization.

“The doctor directed me to go to Virtua Mount Holly Hospital immediately,” she said. “This was a shock because my blood pressure had been normal until that point.”

Harley was admitted to the hospital and spent the next three weeks being closely monitored. Since preeclampsia can only be cured by delivering the baby, the goal was to keep Harley’s blood pressure stable until she reached at least 34 weeks.

Exceptional Care and Support During Pregnancy

Amidst the stress, Harley and her wife, Gabi, found comfort in the nurses and doctors caring for Harley.

“They weren't just caregivers. They became like family to us,” said Harley. “They were a calming, reassuring presence—especially Dr. Latriece Manning. Gabi was working full-time, so she visited me in the hospital as much as possible. Dr. Manning took the time to FaceTime or sit down with Gabi during visits to answer all her concerns and questions,” said Harley.

The team helped Gabi and Harley create beautiful memories during Harley's hospitalization. Harley's baby shower was planned for her first weekend in the hospital. Rather than rescheduling, she encouraged her friends and family to continue with the celebration. Gabi attended the shower to open gifts, and Harley joined virtually from the hospital. Harley and Gabi also took maternity photos in a garden at the hospital.

On December 23, 2024, at 34 weeks, baby girl Wrenley safely arrived. As a preemie, Wrenley spent five days in the hospital’s special care nursery, where she grew stronger every day.

“Now, Wrenley's a great eater, growing beautifully, smiling, and laughing in her sleep,” said Harley.

Heartfelt Gratitude

Harley and Gabi were overwhelmed with gratitude for their care.

“I wouldn’t change a thing about my experience—the care was incredible,” said Harley. “Despite the challenges, we were met with reassurance and understanding. Everyone went above and beyond to make Wrenley’s birth a beautiful, memorable experience for us.”
